In what Alice wrote about her husband Benjamin, she says, "In 1899 he left England for Canada, paying all of his own expenses sailing on the Lake Manitoba from Southampton or Liverpool, landed in Montreal on Good Friday, he was age 20." However, both Ivan Jones' biography and the 1911 Census of Canada list his immigration to Canada in 1903. Also, according to the ship records in the Canada archives, the ship "Lake Manitoba" did not travel to Canada at this time, but the "Lake Ontario" did, arriving at Saint John in New Brunswick on 10 April 1903, which was Good Friday that year. Alice's father, Arthur Thomas Lowe, arrived on the "Lake Manitoba" in 1913, and Alice may have mixed the two in her memory.
