Charles "Carl" Gustaf Moline was born in Sweden. His father was Daniel Gabrielsson, so Carl's family name in Sweden was Danielsson. The story is that on his way to America, he decided to take the name Moline. According to the notes from the 1984 Moline Family Reunion, he emigrated from Sweden in 1887 or 1888. He “came to the U.S. first to La Porte, Indiana and later to Courtland, Kansas.”
The screen shot below is from Ancestry.com; it is very likely the right person. Based on this, it appears he chose to change his name starting at the first leg of his emigration. I don't know if the "Record Date" is the departure date or something else. "Tyende" is "servant, maid, farmhand." It would have been helpful if the information on this emigration record included the name of the ship.
Location of Köpenhamn, Sweden
I have not been able to locate his naturalization documents. Both the INS and the 12th Judicial District Court in Kansas (which includes Republic County) have been checked. Next place to check is the La Porte, Indiana courts.
The information below is from his trip back from Sweden in 1905, presumably to visit family.
